Colorado Springs, CO – Who is Santa Bob? Bob Telmosse was his name and helping the people of Colorado Springs was his thing. This past weekend marked the 30th annual Christmas give-away in Colorado Springs and this year the Thunder jumped in to help. With a 5:00am start time Thunder players Facu Vadra, Bruno Gomes, Pablo Navarro, and CJ Yoder decided to take time to help with this spectacular event. The South American contingency was well received as their Spanish and Portuguese helped them as families from all across the city to receive gifts and overall holiday cheer at the Springs Expo Center.
Every child that attended received stuffed animals, a book, a gift and then a chance to win a brand new bicycle. While the kids made out the families also left with a turkey, shopping bag of side dishes, and a desert for a special holiday dinner. Santa Bob not only gives but also teaches as Olivia’s Corner was where the children learned to give as they chose a gift for mom and dad. Several volunteers then wrapped the gifts with care. “This was one of the best things I’ve been a part of. I had to hold back some emotion during my very first walk through with my first family. The kids were so well behaved and mom could not stop thanking me and all the volunteers. ‘Little South America’ as we like to call them , were awesome. The Thunder organization is much better off after having these guys join us this season. Santa Bob had a vision and the Thunder organization plan to be a part of it for a very long time,” said Yoder.
After such a spectacular Christmas event the Thunder will follow it up with their annual Charity Jersey Auction Night this coming Saturday as they welcome the Parker Prowlers to CET Arena for both teams last regular season contests. The home team will be sporting custom jerseys in an effort to do their part to help out the city of Colorado Springs. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Springs Rescue Mission to help Colorado Springs people in need. Springs Rescue Mission has been helping people since 1996 and fed over 1000 people during their Thanksgiving dinner. “After the Waldo Fires and the recent cold weather, there are even more people in need within our community and we are looking forward to doing anything we can to help out. Our jersey auction is always a special event and we expect this year to be no different,” mentions captain, CJ Yoder.
The Prowlers come into the I-83 Battle leading the Rocky Mountain Division and favorites to win the Western Conference again this season. Pro games begin at 7:15pm with Minor sets at 6:00 and 9:30pm. All games played at CET Arena (3325 Meadow Ridge Dr – COS, CO 80922 / 719-357-1235).
