Colorado Springs, CO –After a Friday night of things going the way of the Prowler, Sunday would have to be a long night for the Thunder if they were to have a chance at their 3rd Founders Cup. The Prowlers were not having it and although a lopsided game 3 went to the Thunder, the Prowlers buckled down and took a thrilling game 4 to move them into the PIHA Finals.
Game 3 went to the home team as the Thunder took control early as Jake Miller scored 2 minutes into the game and then added another later in the period. The Thunder turned it on in the 2nd half scoring another three goals. The Prowlers ended the barrage with a late goal to bring them within 4 in an eventual 5-1 loss.
As the series headed into game 4 the Prowlers would rely on a steady Corey Walters and great defense to come away with a series clinching 3-2 win. Walters faced 20 shots while only giving up 2 goals and watched as his defense stepped in front of several shots. “They block everything. Anything that looks like a shooting lane quickly has a stick in that lane,” said Thunder forward, Zack Blake. Prowler forwards worked at all ends of the rink as well as they came back into their own zone after every turnover and forced the Thunder to make their own. The Prowlers eventually took advantage of a nonexistent Thunder power play unit that had only 1 goal in the entire series. After another tipped pass the Parker squad sprung Connor Parker who had just come out of the penalty box for a breakaway and an eventual Game 4 win 3-2.
The Prowlers will face the Marple Gladiators in two weeks at CET Arena in Colorado Springs, CO in what should be a fast and furious 7-game series. Games begin Friday, February 21 at 7pm MST.
