PIHA began its regular season in South America this weekend as the Surfers, Aviators, Outbackers, and Empire came together for a great weekend of hockey. After week one it looked like the Outbackers were the team to beat but everyone is in the mix. “What a spectacular weekend! Beautiful facility, great city, extremely good hockey, and some enthusiastic players made for a wonderful weekend. The league is proud to be a part of this and is excited to grow here in Brazil. Thinking Women’s Division, and maybe a Minor Division under the Semipro for 2014-2015. Really was a great success,” commented league President, CJ Yoder.
The Outbackers, led by former Colorado Springs Thunder player, Pablo Navarro, looked to be the ‘cream of the crop’ this weekend but all four teams were very competitive and all showcased some great talent. Even the Empire, which skated away with only 1 win on the weekend, showed flashes of what is to come from a proud, deep roster. In the end, the weekend showcased future stars, some great women’s hockey, and a touch of class with DJ Zarubia Timmes providing some great entertainment between games.
The league would like to thank Pablo Navarro, Anderson Mangro, Emmerich Souza, and all the volunteers that helped make our first adventure into South America a successful one!
